UiTM EcoPhoton Solar Racing Team organized a Launching Dinner on 23rd August 2019, to officiate their new Solar Car, Tigris, located at their home ground, Engine Square, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam.
One of the sponsors for the solar car project is Malaysia Automotive Robotics & IoT Institute (MARii). On the occasion, Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Nizmar Mohd Nazar received an appreciation gift from UiTM Eco Photon on behalf of MARii for sponsoring a platinum amount of RM 40, 000.
UiTM Eco Photon Solar Racing Team is a UiTM team comprises of 5 advisors and 28 undergraduate students that come from multidisciplinary background and they will participate in the upcoming Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2019 (BWSC 19), which marks their 3rd time competing in the prestigious event since 2015 and 2017.
BWSC 19 is a 3,000 km race from Darwin, North Australia to Adelaide, South Australia, consisting 3 solar car categories which are Adventurer, Challenger, and Cruiser, with each having specific requirements to be in. All together, 48 teams from 23 countries will be involved, including advanced technology countries like Germany, Japan and United States.
The agreement with MARii has benefited UiTM as a whole as the team will not just represent their university, but they will be the sole team to represent Malaysia on international level. On top of that, UiTM Eco Photon team members have profited a lot through critical technical discussions with MARii’s technology team for the past one year. MARii, as the first ever sponsor, has helped the team in plenty areas that includes R&D on the solar car like electrical system, body structure, as well as its mechanical system.
The team also has previously joined Malaysia Autoshow organized by MARii, in two consecutive years (2018 & 2019), and it has positively impacted their presence within both the automotive industry and the public community.
Built on the renewable concept of “Green, Efficient, Advanced”, Tigris is fully powered by solar energy, through the mechanical system of specially made motor and batteries.
Their visions are to connect future youth generation by inculcating their interest in science & technology, aid and support on eco-friendly environment and help position UiTM as one of the leading researchers in solar industry.
