Our Industry Led Professional Certification Programme (IPC) is designed to integrate Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) school leavers and diploma holders into the semi-skilled and highly skilled automotive industry workforce. Since it was first initiated in 2012, a lot of graduates have successfully moved on to being employed in various technical professions within the automotive industry.
This includes specialists, technicians and operators who have not only contributed to significantly reducing Malaysia’s automotive industry dependence on low-skilled foreign workers but have also raised the bar in terms of competencies and proficiencies in handling higher technological complexities to meet with the ever-challenging environment of vehicle and component manufacturing.
In the areas of manufacturing, candidates are exposed to competencies involving metal stamping and welding; plastic injection, blowing and extrusion; rubber extrusion and compression; machining and tooling; and other customized as well as niche areas of expertise. Candidates are also introduced to areas beyond manufacturing to include after sales where they gain valuable insights into the setting-up and managing of workshops and service centers; as well as proficiencies in vehicle end-of-life and re-manufacturing.
This was successfully accomplished in consultation with players in the automotive industry, ensuring that modules are tailor-made to the evolving requirements of the industry, and that candidates are trained and become certified in critical areas of importance, as well as exposed to industry-leading standards, processes, requirements, and methodologies As part of the program, candidates undergo a 24 days intensive classroom session to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge before they are assigned to work at various automotive companies. The efficacy of the programme, direct exposure to the industry and hands-on approach have resulted in graduates not only acquiring the necessary credentials to enter the workforce but successfully doing so earning higher starting salaries compared to their counterparts.
